About Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D. |
![]() Dr. Tina Payne Bryson is a lecturer and parenting educator. She's an expert contributor at eHarmony Parenting, and she serves as the Director of Parenting Education and Development for The Mindsight Institute where, along with internationally known child psychiatrist Dr. Daniel J. Siegel, she works to help teach parents and professionals about the interface between relationships and the changing brain. Tina has her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, where she focused her research and studies on interpersonal neurobiology, attachment science, and childrearing theory. But Tina emphasizes that before she’s a parenting educator, or a researcher, she’s a mom. Alongside her husband of 13 years, parenting Ben, Luke, and J.P. is what makes her happiest: “They’re my heart. It’s my greatest privilege to be their mom. Because of them, I’ve approached my research with a very personal agenda; the more I learned about different theories of parenting, and the better I understood what goes on inside my boys’ brains (and inside my own), the more I was able to parent the way I wanted: lovingly, intentionally, and effectively.” Tina says that for the last several years, these two parts of her identity—the educator/researcher, and the potty-trainer/super- Jedi-spy-Mom-with-laser-powers—have informed each other and have dovetailed really nicely. Her professional life now focuses on taking research and theory from various fields of science, and offering it to other parents in a way that’s clear, realistic, humorous, and immediately helpful.
